Do you give handmade gifts for Christmas ?
I sometimes give handmade gifts, but only if i know that the recipient will appreciate it or have it as a wish. What do you do ? I too will only spend time making something handmade for someone close who will appreciate the effort! I think most people don't understand the time that goes into knitting or crocheting something when you can buy cute or useful items for little money (socks, mittens, keychains...). Anyway I generally make something if the recepient has expressed interest in something specific (ex a summer top). Christmas decorations are also a people pleaser, generally.
Happy crafting :) Only for loved ones who appreciate the work.
And only because most people have hardly any idea how much work and, above all, time is involved.
Most people think, oh, it's just your hobby. And you always have time in the evenings anyway.
You could do the math. For the time I invest in hand-knitted socks, the recipient can clean my apartment.
Strange, nobody likes to hear that Only for knitworthy people in my life, close family and friends. Not everyone appreciates or uses handmade knitted items so I have been gifting them to people that I'm sure will use it. I have knitted mostly hats, shawls and socks for my mom, brother, best friend and grandmother static/image/common/user_online.gif Everia static/image/common/clock.gif 2024-12-5 18:15

I can fully relate to that. I only give to people who ask for it <3Happy crafting to you too :) Only to those I consider "knit" worthy! Most people don't appreciate the time, money and effort that goes into making a handmade gift IMHO. If someone is a crafter themselves they usually are very appreciative. I used to a lot more, but I've been scaling back this year. I'm trying to only make things that people have directly asked me for, so I know it's something they want and I don't have to try and find the perfect pattern I have taken a bunch of pottery classes in the fall. At least one person in the class will end up making ceramic ornaments. It's such a nice and quick gift. I do. But only if I'm very sure that the recipient appreciates handcraft.
I learned it the hard way... I did last Christmas, but I think they hated them :( So unless somebody asks, I won't bother anymore. Sometimes I give a little present, selfmade, instead of a ChristmasCard I’m making a Christmas present right now, my first time doing so tho! I do quick knitted stuff like dk socks or mittens i only do so for those who are close to me and will appreciate the effort!
