I too will only spend time making something handmade for someone close who will appreciate the effort! I think most people don't understand the time that goes into knitting or crocheting something when you can buy cute or useful items for little money (socks, mittens, keychains...). Anyway I generally make something if the recepient has expressed interest in something specific (ex a summer top). Christmas decorations are also a people pleaser, generally.

Only to those I consider "knit" worthy! Most people don't appreciate the time, money and effort that goes into making a handmade gift IMHO. If someone is a crafter themselves they usually are very appreciative.

I used to a lot more, but I've been scaling back this year. I'm trying to only make things that people have directly asked me for, so I know it's something they want and I don't have to try and find the perfect pattern
