Put something light underneath, a light source or a white fabric. Try to stitch in good lighting conditions too, and let your eyes rest often.

I always use a light, at the brightest setting I have behind the fabric (and maybe in front if it's a neck light). I also only use 11 or 14 ct as that's as small as I can go and see the holes lol
