Below your dark canvas, must be bright colors surface, like white table, white pants, anything white below the dark canvas will work very well + BRIGHT LIGHT.:loveliness::loveliness:

I use the lamp method too. I just don't have it right under me. Sit as you would normally to stitch. Have someone place the lamp away from you so that it will show through the piece as you work. Just don't have it in an area that it may get knocked over. No strain and happier stitching! :)

Best tips. Use a 14 count aida fabric, place fabric in a hoop, and work over a light box. It makes the holes easy to see and prevents eye strain. I love the look of brighter color on the dark fabric it makes it pop
