HI!
I always washed my big projects, because it's normal tha during the time get a lilltle bit dirty, also when you leave it for a while. You may get surprised of how nice and brighter they become when washed and ironed!!!!!!!!!!!1

Great tips but I've always been too scared to wash my pieces.I take great care to not get them dirty while stitching and have never really encountered any problems.

I always hand wash my projects when finished and I´ve never had problems with fading...
Useful information, and I should add to iron on the reverse side of the work.

I've always washed my pieces. I use cold water and Dawn dish detergent, which works very well to lift any grease and dirt out without scrubbing. I let the piece soak for 24 to 48 hours in the soapy water. Then I rinse them and let them soak for 24 to 48 hours in clear water. I do change the water about every 12 hours. I've never had a problem with the thread bleeding, but then I've only used DMC thread.

maybe it depends on the floss used in it, I use dmc and I usually wash my works by hand ,even with warm water, after finishing and they 've never dye out

Thank you for that. I am really scared to wash my cross stitch - some of the threads I used aren't well known names - will this make a difference?

If your using DMC thread, then there is no problem washing your finished projects because DMC threads are really of quality and will not bleed during the process of washing,
I also hang my work after towel drying it for like 5 -10 mins then I iron the back side of it,
I noticed that the colors seemed to be more vibrant after that.
