Thanks for the tips!  I will give the spiralling out a try soon.  I'm currently working on Santa's village and it's the first time working with variegated threads.  I love the effect of stripes on the buildings, but possibly the spiralling effect would work better on the other things.

I haven't used any yet, but I love the idea of varigated thread because you can use it to get so many different effects!

I always stitch a whole cross with any thread, that way you don't have to undo a whole row if one cross is wrong.
