Unless you need a specific grip because of hand pain problems, any hook is fine. The thing you have to be pay attention to is how well the yarn may slide on them, but also this is personal preference. For example I don't really like the feeling of plastic hooks and tend to prefer metal or wood ones, but if I need a unusual hook size that I know I wont be using much, I'll go for the cheap plastic ones [useip] => 95.248.38.224 [port] => 43454 [invisible] => 0 [anonymous] => 0 [usesig] => 0 [htmlon] => 0 [bbcodeoff] => -1 [smileyoff] => -1 [parseurloff] => 0 [attachment] => 0 [rate] => 0 [ratetimes] => 0 [status] => 0 [tags] => 0 [comment] => 0 [replycredit] => 0 [position] => 2 [hotrecommended] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [pid] => 49801121 [fid] => 135 [tid] => 634970 [first] => 0 [author] => Hicsuntleones [authorid] => 344703 [subject] => [dateline] => 1728042311 [message] => In my opinion not really. I have severe carpal tunnel and have tried nearly every hook available. I can crochet longer, and with less pain and numbness, when I use a Clover amour hook (around $7-10 per hook). My priciest hooks ($50-70 per hook) were absolutely not worth the cost- I tried them, didn't work for me, and banished them to a drawer (but they do look nice in photographs!). For me, the Clover amours were one of the best crochet purchases I have ever made. Even the cheapest hooks can be made more comfortable, or usable, by doing simple hook hacks- like adding a mushy grip, or adding Fimo handles etc [useip] => 65.38.136.183 [port] => 18602 [invisible] => 0 [anonymous] => 0 [usesig] => 1 [htmlon] => 0 [bbcodeoff] => -1 [smileyoff] => -1 [parseurloff] => 0 [attachment] => 0 [rate] => 0 [ratetimes] => 0 [status] => 0 [tags] => 0 [comment] => 0 [replycredit] => 0 [position] => 3 ) [4] => Array ( [pid] => 49811298 [fid] => 135 [tid] => 634970 [first] => 0 [author] => Tobefrankie [authorid] => 404103 [subject] => [dateline] => 1728091999 [message] => Thankyou, I only have cheap ones, I’ve heard good things about clover hooks, I might just have buy one and see how it feels [useip] => 108.162.250.185 [port] => 26460 [invisible] => 0 [anonymous] => 0 [usesig] => 1 [htmlon] => 0 [bbcodeoff] => -1 [smileyoff] => -1 [parseurloff] => 0 [attachment] => 0 [rate] => 0 [ratetimes] => 0 [status] => 0 [tags] => 0 [comment] => 0 [replycredit] => 0 [position] => 4 ) [5] => Array ( [pid] => 49825892 [fid] => 135 [tid] => 634970 [first] => 0 [author] => petranika [authorid] => 421216 [subject] => [dateline] => 1728165290 [message] => The thing i noticed most with some of the super cheap one (around one-two euro for a set of mutiples) is that the metal is poor quality and super rough. This catches on the yarn a lot and makes working with them super hard. You can see scuff marks on them in the metal and even feel them with your fingers. I have had great experience with the tulip hooks and I love them a lot. They are in the mid range with hooks around 12-15 euro's. I have also really like the knitpro waves, those are also less expensive with a set of 9 being around 35-40 euro. My US-friend used to send me some, she said, they're available in every supermarket for little money. Those are these coloured metal hooks. Since my health issue, I can't use them anymore & need something with "a handle" so the cheap ones are gone for me. In recent years the prices for yarn, fabric, needles & other supplies you need are risen sharply. I am now thinking carefully about what project I do or better, can afford.
