[message] => Hi :) I'm learning to knit too, I suggest starting with small project with ripetitive stitches to get the hang of it, for example a scarf/shawl and use a chunky yarn, so it should "grow" faster. For me the real hassle compared to crochet, was that the stitches tend to slip from the needles if you're not careful and correcting any mistake is much harder... Other that that, with little patience you can knit amazing pieces.
I too recommend youtube to start, there are plenty of tutorials for complete beginners.

My local library provides space for a knit group that I joined. It's great for conversation and help. Another place to check out is your local rec centre, senior centre, library, parks & rec, etc. I found my group thru Ravelry where they have a static presence. Check around. Knitters always like to help other knitters/crocheters. You might be supprised what you find.
