Hello everyone, my name is, well you can call me Lessa and apparently I joined this site at some point in the past but forgot about it until I stumbled upon it today. I am 54 (on April 1) and have 2 bio-children, 3 step-children (only one claims me though..lol), 4 absolutely amazing grandchildren, 4 furry babies, 1 furry (permanent) house guest (all of which meow), and just about the greatest man I could ever ask for.
I taught myself how to cross stitching (see story below) approximately 25 years ago. I had to stop about 10 years ago due to arthritis but thanks to modern medicine I am able to stitch again. I also enjoy painting, coloring (mostly with my granddaughter), and beading. I tried to learn to crochet but because I am left handed and everyone I know who crochets is right handed I never really got the hang of it. I am slowly getting the hang of this site, so feel free to provide me with and pointer you think will be helpfull.
Now the story of how I taught myself to cross stitch. My ex-husband's aunt gave me a cross-stitch clock kit for Christmas one year as an afterthought. You could tell it was an afterthought because 1) it was a used kit, parts of it (the clock mechanism) we missing. 2) I had no idea how to cross-stitch, which she knew cause we had talked about it a few times. 3) It was given to me the day AFTER everyone else got their gifts. She claimed she had forgotten it where she was staying. Well, I was majorly bored one day and decided to give it a try. I figured if I screwed it up, well at least I didn't pay for it. I read the instructions probably about 4 times before I started. I wish I had a picture of it because it came out beautiful. I even ended up buying the clock parts to finish it. I was so proud of that clock. I ended up giving it to the aunt for Christmas that year. Not because she deserved such a beautiful gift, but because I wanted to show her that I was able to take her afterthought and turn it into something beautiful.
Well that is all for now. I hope I can make some friends here to make this site even more enjoyable.
