I use ravelry to find what it is that I'm looking for (through the text search, or through pattern filtering, or from tag searching... the search functionality at ravelry is extensive) and I make a list of ~10+ of the patterns I like and would make. Then I come and search here. Odds are, I will find at least one of the patterns I like. I do a list because it's less annoying when I look up a pattern I want and it's not here - I just mark it on the list and move on to the next entry.
