It's providing extra incentive for someone to share a pattern that you really love, but isn't available here. Bounties don't get solved by anyone uploading the pattern to the bounty post. The reason the replies are obscured is to protect the privacy of the users. That way if someone replies to the post saying they have the pattern, no one will see it. This tripped me up at first, too, I thought there were a whole bunch of patterns available in the bounty area that I just couldn't see due to my level.
Sometimes you can get lucky and if you see a bounty for something and search for it with the searchbar, someone may have made a pattern post for it. This is very rare, though, people are usually good about reporting solved bounties and the bounty thread gets recycled and moved out of the bounty area.
