I've never bought a mini because I can't see me trying to hold the fabric and guide it while trying to keep the machine in place, too. I've only used a small one once, and it was for something very simple, a pocket. I like big ones better.

I was fortunate enough to score a featherweight that I use for my finishing. It may be little but it is mighty. Try to save for an older mechanical machine. The newer small ones are not worth wasting your money on.
