I've been using a ball winder, but I've noticed that I've been getting a lot of twist when I pull from the centre. I need to try using a nosterpin and see if there's a difference.

I just unravel the yarn from its "factory" winding and make it into a ball with my hand. I don't have a fancy winder or anything.

I wind by hand! I start on my thumb and make a decent-sized ball, leaving out a tail for the center pull. Once the ball is big enough, I pull it off my hand, use something like a pencil to maintain the center, and just continue winding it!

i use the tube from an aluminum foil container to make center pull cakes, i cut notches at the top to keep the tail of the yarn from moving and it works super solid!  definitely not the best since im winding almost entirely by hand but i think it works pretty good for my budget + i can wind from anywhere! i dont have to latch the winder onto a desk or anything :p
