I use a drawstring bag.  That way my puppy can't do too much damage before I catch her stealing yarn!  She could lift it out of the bowl way too easily!

I am definitely a fan of a yarn bowl.  I have picked up a couple of pottery-type large cereal bowls at thrift stores over the years, I've made fabric bowls, and finally got a proper yarn bowl recently, and just love them.  My couch sits high off of the floor, so my loose yarn balls would always run for cover deep underneath, so a yarn bowl definitely works for me.

What a lovely yarn bowl.  Someone really pays attention to what you would like, or it's a very good gift to yourself.  They are a very useful item for a knitter.  I just use a big salad bowl, but I like yours way better.
