There are lots of patterns for knitting clothes on circular needles so that you don't have to sew up the sides...................:lol
You can find patterns for knitting socks from the top down...............................;P
Do you have anything in mind that you would like to make????????
I think the most interesting thing about knitting and crochet is the fact that yarn can be used and reused, so you’ve lost nothing for trying. I think getting over the fear of doing it is the hardest part. My first project was a cardigan because I didn’t know any better, and it was fine. Now I hear people talking about teaching a garter-stitch scarf or SC item, like a washcloth, and I think that is fine for some people, but it is also limiting.
My hardest thing always seems to be the yarn I have isn't what a pattern is calling for as in clothes which need the right tension so I start it trying to mathematically make it work get so far and pull it out...You need to make sure if you are making clothes to match the gauge with the pattern and the yarn... Way too complicated for me I stick with dolls and toys...I hate sewing in ends....
Try knitting with Elizabeth Zimmermann's patterns. You can use any yarn and any needles to get clothes that fit using her 'percentage system'. Everything I've knit so far has turned out fantastic, and besides doing a little basic math, her patterns are easy to follow.
