I, too, dislike backstitching. But done correctly it really does add the finishing touches to a project. Make sure to take your time and put your needle in the correct place so that it virtually disappears into the desigh. I also don't like black backstitching on most designs. The backstitching should add dimension without jumping out at you like the outlines in a coloring book. There are times that I change dark backstitching to a lighter color that blends in well.
I agree with you on this! I love the Cherished Teddies patterns just for the fact that they don't use black to backstitch at all!

I do my backstitching and beading at the end too. As some one else said, I love seeing how it all sort of comes more alive and looks more finished to me when I do that. Backstitching goes relatively quick, so it doesn't bother me. Seems if I do it as I go along, it gets tucked in or covered by other stitches or something always goes wrong, doesn't have as clean of lines.
Tambien lo dejo para el final del bordado, y si no me gusta demasiado el color oscuro que tenga lo cambio por otro color que realce tambien el trabajo, pero que no destaque tanto.:)
