it happened to me once, the rustic needle stain on my fabric, you can see it  here, in my coffee time finished project, I put lots of French knot there to cover the marks of the needle.

I use scroll frames and when I'm not working on a project, I cover with a large piece of cloth to keep away dust and insects and make sure the frame is out of direct sunlight :)
