Using hoops over finished work

I have a question about how to use a hoop over parts of the design that's already been stitched.I've seen a lot of photos of people doing this, but HOW do you manage not to squish the stitches?I tried it once before, and my poor design, it looked smooshed.:o

I dont worry too much about squishing because after washing and ironing, every stitch comes back to life.

You can bind your hoop with some bias binding or what I do is put some felt over the stitched area or even just fold some of the excess fabric over the stitched area. It also seems to hold the fabric taut as well.

After you remove the hoop the stitches will fluff back up on their own. It also helps if you don't leave the hoop on over night. If there are stitches that still remain squished, washing your finished piece will also bring your stitches back to life.

I do this alot since I only have 12" hoop as the largest around.. what I normally do is that I fold the edges of my fabric instead of doing hem stitching to avoid losing thread and I secure that folded area with either pins/ masking tape.. so whenever I move my frame around, I let the folded edges be a part in my frame so when I tie the frame, the thickness of the folded area prevents me from increasing frame's tension and then affecting my stitched area xD
