Too many projects, too little time!
I am at the age when people start thinking of stopping to smell the roses, i.e. retiring. Yet, I continue to accumulate my cross stitch/embroidery stash. Don't get me wrong, I do realize both the size of my collection of kits and patterns as well as the concept of my mortality. It's harder and harder to decide which project is a priority, and which is next to start as soon as the current one is finished. Damn ebay and flosstube, those two are my main enablers! Watching, seeing, falling for something, searching for it, finding it - and boom! buying - again, again and again. Some women collect jewelry, some - shoes and purses, others purfumes. I acquire cross stitch stuff. What the heck, life is short, and this is the only thing that truly brings me joy, my hobby. Once in a while I enter my stash room and do an inventory of my collection, and I marvel at each item I possess - wow, I forgot I have this one, what a beauty! Oh, and look at this one, I want to start it right this minute! But wait, I gotta finish the one I'm currently stitching, shoot. Why don't I have 8 hands and 48 hours in a day, and neither full time job nor family obligations? If I were rich, I'd quit work, buy me a private jet, and a small island somewhere in the Pacific, and I would transport all my cross stitch collection there - to sit under a palm tree all day long, listening to the waves and seagulls, and stitch, stitch, stitch. Paradise!!We're called S.A.B.L.E. stitchers! Stash Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy! hahaha Oh my gosh, we are both having the same problem. As I read your post it sounded so much like what I've been saying and thinking, but about different crafts. I've collected so many gorgeous patterns including hand bags, quilts, dolls and much more. I can't ever go too long without adding to my stash, a few yards of fabric, new patterns or even something as simple as a few spools of ribbon or some pretty buttons!
And, I want to try every craft I see. I have a collection of jewelry making supplies and have a pretty good collection of silicone molds and resin. At my age I to have high and unrealistic hopes! Realistically, I know if I stopped collecting right now, I will probably never get to use even half of the stuff I have collected.
I've loved sewing and crafting all my life. But, between raising kids and not having a lot of money to spare, my craft supplies could fit in a couple of boxes. Here I am retired and have enough craft stuff for a well supplied craft room and find myself wishing I had all these things when I was younger.
But, this addictions keeps gnawing at me and I have to feed it. So, when I see a new pattern or craft item I think I can't live without I'll grab it. The good thing is I have a grand-daughter who is only 9 years old right now, but she's a born crafter to. She hates throwing some things away saying, I can make something out of that! So, my beloved collection will still be loved long after I'm gone. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I had a she shed built in my garden to store my stash but some how it’s spilled over back into the house. I’ve told my husband when I drop of my perch he’s to take it all to a crafting group and donate it. I’d hate to think it was just sent to the tip.
There’s always new chars and gadgets I find on the net that I just have to have. I’ve lost count of how many stitching frames and kits I have. I have the entire collective of DMC threads, not just one skein multiple of each. Many of the anchor threads, and now I’ve started on Madeira. I think it’s a sickness So many unfinished projects haha. I have one project I LOVE making but I messed up a big chunk and am dreading redoing it, another I'm not loving to make but am making for a friend, a bunch more for fun, a shawl for my mom, so many things I want to do for myself. Managing day to day life, work, two rambunctious dogs, playing roller derby, working out... All that PLUS my hobbies? It's a lot. But it's worth it!
I also love that you can do most of these crafts during travels or in waiting areas. I'll have a few flights in April and am looking forward to a few solid hours of crochet with no interruptions. I am exactly the same. LOL! I have 4 hobbies.
1. Crochet
2. Collecting yarn
3. Collecting patterns
4. Online looking at yarn, patterns and everyone else's crochet projects
I have enough yarn and patterns to fill up 100 life times and new stuff gets posted online everyday.
I just want to crochet and drink coffee all day but life gets in the way unfortunately.
I also love revisiting my yarn and pattern stash and rediscovering things I have forgotten I have. you're not the only one :D I have diamond painting kits that are waiting because I need to finish a crochet sweater, but I have also a blanket, an embrodery bird, a little bookshop diorama, and so many others I want to begin. Hello, the same for me, and for knitting too ! The same for my mother, but I lost her stash in a flood, it was dramatic, so now my stash is upstairs !!
And patterns on my computer !
Enjoy your day ! I acquire because I have high (and unrealistic) hopes! As addictions go, ours seems pretty benign. Same here! I think the best thing to do is starting with the project you're more passionate about Was there only a place where we could by time ;)
