They will sometimes tell me all the ones I had bought from them. They may not keep a list but a website will tell a seller who bought what, who has one of their items in the cart, who favorited one of their items and so on. Some members here will get blocked from their store. I've been able to recover patterns I had bought but lost the file thanks to that. Definitely Ravelry and Etsy keeps track of who bought what - even when buying unregistered.
I've been able to recover patterns I had bought but lost the file thanks to that.

I would not dare to ask a designer for help on a pattern I got disregarding their copyright... but that's only my opinion though
