Difference between Oslo and Stockholm sweater?
Hi all, I am searching for my next knitting project and find Oslo and Stockholm sweater by petite knit interesting. However, I can’t really find the difference between the two sweaters.
If anyone find the difference between them please let me know!
This confuses me for a while, thanks! Edited by Abby925 at 2023-12-9 13:20
Stockholm pattern came out first, it uses short rows for shaping at the shoulders & top of sleeves; Oslo does not use short rows & IMO it may have been made for people who liked the look of the shoulders in Stockholm, but dislike knitting short rows.
Both sweaters do not have the typical seam at the top of the shoulder, see how the front pieces wrap over the top of the shoulder to the back of the sweater? This is where the patterns have a different construction at the back/shoulders. Both patterns the back is knit first, top down, & the front is picked up at each shoulder, the shoulders are knit separate until joined at the front neckline.
Main difference - Stockholm the upper back is a large rectangle & when the shoulders are picked up it uses short rows to make shaping as the front shoulders go over the shoulders. Oslo the back has a slight isosceles trapezoid shape at the top of the shoulders (this shaping is done with increases), then as you pick up the front at each shoulder it has decreases at the armhole edge & increases at the neckline to make the upper front shaping before the front shoulder pieces are joined at the neckline.
After the shoulders both pieces are knit similar, you continue to knit the front flat until the bottom of the armhole, then at the armhole the front & back are joined & you start to knit in the round, with a bit of tapering at the sides as you knit towards the bottom.
Both patterns the sleeves are then picked up & knit in the round, but Stockholm has short row shaping at the top of the sleeves, Oslo does not. There are also slight differences in the patterns in the length of ribbing at the bottom, sleeve cuffs, & collar, of course the length of these could be easily modified to your preference. Again, the main difference between the patterns is the way the shoulders & upper sleeves are knit (using short rows in Stockholm).
I’m not exactly sure but this is what the designer said on her ravelry: 12
The construction is differently. I uploaded some pictures showing the shoulder construction of each sweater. Also, the Oslo sweater is a bit more oversized. I hope this helps :-)
So I guess the shoulders would be the difference? I think the yarn weight is different as well :) you're right, the difference between sweater and sweater LIGHT
is often not clear to me either static/image/common/user_online.gif Abby925 static/image/common/clock.gif 2023-12-10 03:42
