Repaints without accurate colors and-or stitches
I have noticed two repaints that are not at all like the designer's patterns (because this site also has the scanned versions to compare). The most recent one was Mandala Seahorse C202 by Awesome Pattern Studio. (The other one was also by Awesome Pattern Studio but it was months ago so I don't remember which one).I didn't scrutinize all stitches, but did notice the eye in the "repaint" looks different from the pictures (the designer doesn't seem to ever use fractional stitches, but the "repaint" had them on the eye) so I opened the scanned pattern & sure enough, that part was different. Also the color palette is very different (the colors are similar, but not the same DMC color numbers).
I suspect the person who did the "repaint" just used a program to take an image of the finished design & converted it that way instead of using the scanned pattern & actually repainting it with the correct colors and stitches. Is this something people should be doing on this site?
Many of these patterns can easily be copied by looking at the pictures so the reason anyone would pay for them is to get the designer's actual color palette, so I feel like people shouldn't be posting "repaints" that don't have the same colors and stitches as the designer's pattern.
Should I report these when I find them, or is it okay for people to post "repaints" like this? Maybe mods can at least post something on the pattern saying the colors/stitches are not true to the pattern? (Like I said, both of the ones I saw were by Awesome Pattern Studio, and there are many of their patterns on this site do not have scanned versions but only "repaints" so I feel these can't be trusted to be accurate).

There are ways to report if a pattern is found with faults
Please post here with the links and someone will look at it:

It is suspicious to have so many APS patterns circulating everywhere as repaints but only a few as PDFs. Especially since they do not distribute their works in any other format. My theory is the same as yours. Someone took the time to save the hi-res image from their webshop, and with some guesswork on the colours tried to reconstruct the pattern with more or less success. At first glance, they might look okay, and if there's no original to compare to, it's near impossible to tell. They get away with it and now those get shared as originals.
It'd be unfair tho not to have an "innocent until proven" approach to repaints (as in not accepting them before a scanned one gets uploaded), because one could never know if the repaint came from an internet rando or from the designer themselves. Besides once one thread gets removed for not having the scanned original up, it might take a very long time until it will be eligible, so it very well could be that it won't get uploaded again at all. However, it might be a good idea to have a notice somewhere in the thread saying that the pattern does not have a scanned version, so be cautious. But due to the sheer amount of threads, it'd be impossible to recheck each and every old thread.
Anyway, if you find such threads, please report them! The same goes for suspicious-looking "scanned" patterns too. Those same fake APS patterns, along with many other repaints, genuine or not, got converted to PDF and find their way into the scanned section from time to time. This is a big no-no, and they get recycled immediately, but some get through the cracks. Great catch on the APS designs, noting they do not use fractional stitches is a big tip to check. Will have to check any I have to see if they look suspect. Please report any you catch as members pay a lot for repaints and it is not fun when you find them to be wrong. Happy stitching!
