I started crocheting and knitting when I was 18. The crochet, I made doilies and borders for shelves. why crochet, because at the time I loved and still love lace. I would have liked to learn bobbin lace but I didn't have the opportunity.
And knitting at the same age when my friends had children, I was making bras. I took a 40-year break and resumed when my grandson was born, knitting, crocheting, sewing........
In fact, I'm quite manual, I made my own wooden sewing box.
Here is my story

[message] => Hi
I was 12 when I started, my mum had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, she was really ill and had to go into hospital. There was no one who could take me and brothers and sisters (5 in total) so we ended up in a children's home. There was a girl a couple of years older than me making a blanket. (It was very boring in this children's home) and she taught me. Basic granny square as I didn't know how to finish off as this other girl left a couple of weeks after I met her, I just kept going. It ended up bigger than a double bed lol. I wanted to give it to my mum as a present when she got better. ( 30 plus years ago a 12 years old me didn't understand what terminal meant) unfortunately I never got to give it to her as she died about 4 month later. It ended up being like my comfort blanket until I left care, I was 19.

As a kid my mom tried to reach me to knit. But I just couldn’t keep my tension at one level.
I kinda regret wasting all the years I could have been crocheting.
