Work with the fabric you like and can use easily, it's your hobby, not paid work :)

I usually stitch on 32ct linen / 16ct aida. When I bought a kit that came with a 25ct linen, I was really worried about the crosses looking huge and visible from 200 miles away. But because I like the design so much, I stitched on it anyways. And that is one of the best decisions I made ! It was such a joy and pleasant change to my regular 32ct linen ! Because the holes are bigger, my eyes were less tired. The size 26 needle too was a joy to use - so sturdy and easy to thread.
What I mean to say is do go ahead with the fabric you like :)
