Good afternoon! Good evening! Today marks the start of Week 4 in our Project 2 adventure! I hope everyone has been having a great time stitching your Happypotamuses! You are all doing such a fantastic job and I am greatly hoping to see some more progress pictures this week! Don't be shy! Share your WIP's! Everyone deserves the spot light :D :D :D So this week we get to make and attach the main bum-bum motif (hee hee that sounds so silly ;P ). From here on out we are going to be adding a little bit each week to our happy hippo's body. I have stretched out the stitch schedule in consideration of the upcoming holidays, please read through it. I understand we are all busy working on our holiday gifts and decorations aside from the CA. I just want to remind you all that this is not a "set in stone" schedule. You do not need to complete every step on time every week. I know many of you are way ahead of the schedule and very close to being finished, this is absolutly fine! For those of you who are concerned about falling behind or not being able to keep up there is no need to stress or rush. Each week we would only be working on adding 1-2 new motifs. What you don't get done in one week you can catch up on over the next week or so. I just want to encourage you all to keep stitching, but at your own pace. Do not get discouraged or frusturated, there is plenty enough time to work on these hippos. Take breaks as needed or keep on stitching, just remember to enjoy it and have fun! :) For your reference, below are the links to all the previous posts for this project: Crochet Along - Project 2: Idea Submissions Crochet Along - Project 2: Vote Crochet Along - Project 2: WEEK 1 Crochet Along - Project 2: WEEK 2 Crochet Along - Project 2: WEEK 3 CROCHET ALONG - STITCH SCHEDULE **I do have a favor to ask, if any of you have already worked an African Flower Motif and you could share with us some advice or alternative tips outside from the pattern, please share with us below. Gather your materials and plan out your project. Decide which joining method you prefer and how you want to proceed. It seems like many of us are using the join-as-you-go method, this is not mandatory, you can choose to make all of the pieces first and join them at the end. Your preference! Please take note that I will be following the pattern for the stitch schedule and the pattern is based on the join-as-you-go method. Again this is all up to you and what you are most comfortable with. [backcolor=yellow]SIDE NOTE: The designer has chosen to start the motifs with Ch 5 and slip stitch to form a ring. If you prefer, as I do, you can substitute the Ch 5 for a magic circle. If you do not know how to work the magic circle, YouTube has some wonderful tutorials! I find that it makes it easier when using the magic circle and it gives you the ability to adjust the tightness of the inner circle simply by pulling on a piece of yarn! Look it up and judge for yourself! **Please note, this only stands as a reference, you do not need to use the magic circle[/backcolor] 11/11/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 3 STEP 1 - HIND LEGS - Make (2) hexagons and (2) pentagons and join per instruction, Weekly check-in thread 11/18/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 4 STEP 2 - BUM OCTAGON - Make (1) large octagon and join, Weekly check-in thread 11/25/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 5 STEP 3 (1 of 2) - BUM PENTAGONS - Make (2 of 4) pentagons and join, Weekly check-in thread 12/02/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 6 STEP 3 (2 of 2) - BUM PENTAGONS - Make (last 2 of 4) pentagons and join, Weekly check-in thread 12/09/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 7 STEP 4 (1 of 3 - LEFT SIDE OF BUM) - Make (1) hexagon and (1) pentagon and join, Weekly check-in thread 12/16/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 8 STEP 4 (2 of 3 - RIGHT SIDE OF BUM) - Make (1) hexagon and (1) pentagon and join, Weekly check-in thread 12/23/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 9 STEP 4 (3 of 3 - TOP OF BUM) - Make (1) hexagon and join. Has anyone an idea what I should do ...
She is so beautiful! Great job Dracana! I know a lot of people don't like to use safety eyes for young children but I found a way to reinforce them if you're interested. Otherwise I think embroidering them is your next best and safest option. You can do an online search to find different ways to make them more secure with embroidery. Have you thought about cutting and sewing on felt eyes? You could cut them out to have really pretty eyelashes which will give her a very fun and girlish character :) [useip] => 69.14.7.203 [port] => 0 [invisible] => 0 [anonymous] => 0 [usesig] => 1 [htmlon] => 0 [bbcodeoff] => 0 [smileyoff] => 0 [parseurloff] => 0 => 0 [rate] => 0 [ratetimes] => 0 [status] => 0 [tags] => 0 [comment] => 1 [replycredit] => 0 [position] => 5 ) [10] => Array ( [pid] => 4802200 [fid] => 267 [tid] => 176222 [first] => 0 [author] => Reptilegirl27 [authorid] => 50328 [subject] => [dateline] => 1384972400 [message] =>
Dracana replied at 2013-11-20 08:18 So my hippo is finished .... but she still can´t see anything. Has anyone an idea what I should do ...
Many of the safety eyes have holes in the backs of the rods...that's what I always look for when I'm buying them. I always use some heavy wire after I install them , wrapping it through that hole and around the base of the rod and washer until it's larger than and somewhat overlaps said washer. I also use a plastic gorilla glue to glue this all together to ensure it's not coming loose.  I do think using felt would be another great idea plus as I said you can cut out the first piece with eyelashes then the white you cut also in a girly shape then add some color to match for the eye color. Do an internet search for different felt eye ideas. You could actually do both of these options and use the safety eyes as the pupils...I've been considering it myself. Hope this gives you a good start :) [useip] => 70.210.69.67 [port] => 0 [invisible] => 0 [anonymous] => 0 [usesig] => 1 [htmlon] => 0 [bbcodeoff] => 0 [smileyoff] => 0 [parseurloff] => 0 => 0 [rate] => 0 [ratetimes] => 0 [status] => 0 [tags] => 0 [comment] => 0 [replycredit] => 0 [position] => 6 ) [11] => Array ( [pid] => 4824784 [fid] => 267 [tid] => 176222 [first] => 0 [author] => cerdeirocas [authorid] => 49072 [subject] => [dateline] => 1385219215 [message] => Hello! CROCHET ALONG - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 4

Edited by Reptilegirl27 at 2013-11-19 07:34

Good morning!

Everyone deserves the spot light :D :D :D

So this week we get to make and attach the main bum-bum motif (hee hee that sounds so silly ;P ). :)

CROCHET ALONG - STITCH SCHEDULE
**I do have a favor to ask, if any of you have already worked an African Flower Motif and you could share with us some advice or alternative tips outside from the pattern, please share with us below. I grately appreciate it in advance!

10/28/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 1
Please take this time to download and review the pattern in its entirety! READ IT THOROUGHLY! You are going to want to design and plan out your colors for each piece. Take note of any materials you may need to acquire and take this time to do so. I have posted some pictures above to help boost your creative minds :)

This is a very extensive pattern that includes some new techniques you may or may not be familiar with. All the details are included within the pattern download and I HIGHLY recommend you follow it completely. Practice these new techniques and learn the different motifs! For a successful finished project you will need to know exactly what to do and how to assemble the pieces. If you come across any concerns or questions simpily reply to this thread and we will work on it together!

11/04/2013 - PROJECT 2 - WEEK 2
Weekly check-in thread - continue practicing your motifs and techniques from the Week 1. Gather your materials and plan out your project. Decide which joining method you prefer and how you want to proceed. It seems like many of us are using the join-as-you-go method, this is not mandatory, you can choose to make all of the pieces first and join them at the end.Your preference! Please take note that I will be following the pattern for the stitch schedule and the pattern is based on the join-as-you-go method. Again this is all up to you and what you are most comfortable with.

SIDE NOTE: The designer has chosen to start the motifs with Ch 5 and slip stitch to form a ring. **Please note, this only stands as a reference, you do not need to use the magic circle

Here are my finished happypotamus feeties! I'm using the join as you go method.

I'm having so much fun making these motifs! I have to break often because it hurts my wrist....it's almost a good thing because I wouldn't be able to stop myself from finishing this cutie in a week ;P

Amanda :)

I have finished the feet. I have crocheted the octagon, I still need to join it. I couldn't decide on a color, so it's going to be all different colors.

So my hippo is finished .... but she still can´t see anything. Has anyone an idea what I should do with them. My son is 6 month old so I can´t use any glue. And I couldn´t find any other in the stores around. I don´t know whether embroiding is an idea either since they have to be rather big. I have taken some pictures of Flechti (means something like weavy, she got the name from my daughter because of the tail :))

You could cut them out to have really pretty eyelashes which will give her a very fun and girlish character :)

Hope this gives you a good start :)
